Disaster management drill at IOCL Featured

Coimbatore, June 28, 2017: Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) conducted a disaster management drill at its Irugur terminal in Coimbatore on Friday. The exercise was to ensure total preparedness in case of any eventuality.

The drill was demonstrated under the leadership of C. Prajoth, Terminal Manager, IOCL, Coimbatore, in the presence of M.V. Senthil Kumar, Joint Director of Industrial Safety and Health, Division II, Coimbatore.

As part of the drill, an imaginary fire scenario was created. An internal floating roof tank was made to develop a leakage and that generated audio alarm at control room.

All the team members were immediately put to action to arrest the leak and control the fire. After extinguishing the fire and arresting the leak, the second leak was visualised in another tank. Some of the combat team members rushed to arrest the leak. After extinguishing the fire, both the sites were checked. Zero lower explosion limit was observed at both the sites and clear signal was given by fire chief.

The drill lasted for 10 minutes, after which normalcy was restored.

Officials from other petroleum companies, mutual aid members and various government department staff participated in the mock drill.
